First, let’s clarify the difference between cleansing and detoxing.
Cleansing is a short-term method of “cleaning out” the digestive tract as well as other organs. Cleansing is a wonderful way to improve digestion, remove toxins that build up due to constipation, reduce bloating, and improve absorption of nutrients, as well as giving organs a “break” from inflammatory foods. Adding nutrient-dense vegetables and fruit, combined with specific supplements that target the colon and other organs, is a wonderful addition to living a healthy lifestyle. Cleansing improves the quality of sleep, reduces “brain fog”, enhances digestion, improves mood, and can even lead to weight loss.
Detoxing is a longer method of removing heaving metals, chemical contaminants, fungus/molds, and other compounds that are detrimental to one’s health. Detoxification must be a regular part of a healthy lifestyle in order to enhance cellular function and prevent disease. It is always wise to get help from a trained individual in detoxification because it can cause some side effects that need to be monitored. There are several ways that our body detoxifies: sweat, urine, bowel movements, and there are various methods to facilitate the elimination through these pathways: saunas, detox baths, chelation, lymphatic massage, dry brushing, coffee enemas, and more. When detoxing through urine and bowel movements, specific products have been used that bind to the toxins so that they can be eliminated.
If you’re interested in cleansing or detoxifying, I offer a 7 Day Healthy Cleanse which provides supplements, recipes, preparation for the cleanse, tips for coming off the cleanse, and one on one coaching for the full 7 days.
I also offer programs for detoxifying and refer clients to a colleague who is a functional medicine doctor for toxic load testing. Most programs are 6 weeks long and you receive one on one coaching with me along the way.
