The best way to have a healthy and active metabolism
If you follow me on social media you’ll quickly realize that I love to lift weights and build lean muscle mass. I embrace eating adequate amounts of protein in order to build muscle mass, but I also embrace strength training. Strength training is the key to an active metabolism.
Why is it important to build muscle for an active metabolism?
Think of it this way, your muscle is your metabolism.  Technically that’s not completely true, but it’s true enough for the message I’m trying to get across. As I mentioned in my last blog, your metabolism is dependent upon many variables. However, according to the Mayo Clinic, “Muscle mass is the main factor in basal metabolic rate”. Does this convince you to pick up some weights or strength bands?
Muscle is highly metabolically active
This means it requires more calories than fat requires to be maintained. In short, the more muscle you have, the more fat you’ll burn during your workouts. Even better, your body (metabolism) will also work harder in the 24-48 hours following a workout to repair the muscles that have been recently stressed. Your metabolism is always at work (even while you’re at rest), but if you’re consistently strength training, your metabolism goes the extra mile by putting in overtime. According to studies, you could lose 6 pounds of fat per year simply by building some muscle mass
